PC games are consistently improving. And while this may be good news for many gamers, it can pose different issues for others. For instance, you may find your gameplay to become less fluid or slower. You may also even start to experience some glitches. This is a big problem for those who like to play multiplayer games. After all, glitches are the last thing gamers want to face especially when they are subscribed to a decent ISP like Spectrumcable when playing online with their friends. However, don’t worry! There are some effective ways to improve your PC’s performance for gaming.
Here are some of them:
1. Upgrade Your Graphics and Video Drivers
The graphic card manufacturers always make sure that all the latest and popular games run smoothly on their hardware. This is why big companies like Intel, NVIDIA, and AMD frequently release updated versions of their drivers that offer performance improvements on their cards. Therefore, if you want to boost the performance of the graphics card, it is vital for you to get the latest drivers for your card. You can easily download and install them.
For downloading the drivers, you can simply visit the manufacturer’s website. You can then follow the simple steps to install the driver. Also, as you are doing that, make sure that you check the auto-update setting. Doing so will make sure that driver remains updated at all times.
2. Reduce Your Screen Resolution
Everyone likes playing games at high screen resolution. However, doing so will increase the number of pixels needed for your graphics card to render. This can lower FPS drastically. You should ideally play games at a resolution similar to your screen. But if you are struggling to maintain FPS, then you should consider adjusting your game settings. However, if the problem persists, then you should try reducing the screen resolution of your PC.
3. Uninstall Old Programs
If you have installed a lot of programs on your PC, it will not only affect the system’s performance but will also occupy more space. Therefore, it is advised to get rid of old programs. This will free up some space, allowing your system to respond faster. This will also increase the performance of your PC which will ultimately lead to a better gameplay experience.
If you want to delete your unused programs, all you have to do is go to Control Panel and then hit the Organization tab. After that, click on Date Last Used. You will now see a list of programs. You can simply scroll through the list and uninstall the programs that you no longer need.
4. Overclock the GPU
Before you try this method, it is important for you to check if your GPU can be overclocked. This is because most are factory locked. Overclocking your GPU means that you will be running your graphic card beyond the default setting. Please note that this is quite a risky method to boost the performance of your game. So, please take all the precautions beforehand. If you want to go ahead with this method, you will have to know about the baseline from which your graphic card is currently operating. You should get free analytics and benchmarking software such as Heaven 4.0.
Once you have downloaded the program, launch it. You will then see a menu. Look for Resolution and select System. After that, tap on Run. The program will then run a few scenes that will test the performance of your PC. You may notice some glitches but that is fine. You can then hit Benchmark. When the test is complete, a window will appear that will display the score of your graphics card. Note this down as you will need it later for comparing it with the score after you overclock the GPU.
You can now download a free GPU tweaking tool from the web. There are many options available like PrecisionX by EVGA and Afterburner by MSI. Start the software that you have downloaded and then increase the core clock from 5 to 10 MHz. Now, hit Apply. A window will now appear, just click Save. You will now have to repeat the overclocking step. When you do so, you can anticipate one of two things to happen: either Heaven will run smoothly, or your graphics card will crash. If the latter happens, you will have to find the right frequency for your graphics card!
It is highly frustrating when you can’t get to enjoy your favorite games just because the performance of your PC is not so great. However, you can now take care of this issue. Simply try the aforementioned tips and hopefully, you will be able to play all the games that you previously couldn’t.
